After graduating with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of London, Sarah discovered her love for education while teaching Avionics to members of the Royal Air Force in Norfolk which led her qualify for a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics at the University of East Anglia, alongside teaching Avionics.
Sarah started her teaching career at Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School, before moving to Bexley Grammar School as Deputy Head of Mathematics and to Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematics School as Head of Mathematics. During her time at Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School, Sarah became one of the first lead teachers in Mathematics in the UK and led the process that enabled the school to become a Mathematics and Computing Specialist School.
Sarah has considerable experience as a senior leader, both as a Deputy Headteacher at Bexley Grammar School, where she completed the National Professional Qualification for Headteachers, and most recently as Deputy Headteacher at Newstead Wood School, where the pastoral structure that Sarah set up and embedded was last year described by Ofsted as ‘exceptional and worthy of sharing with all other schools’.
Sarah is passionate about student wellbeing and its importance in enabling students to achieve their potential. Sarah has been a qualified Designated Safeguarding Lead for over five years and qualified as a Mental Health First Aider, before setting up a school wide team of mental health first aiders. Sarah was recently awarded Newstead’s School Leader of the Year for her work as a caring leader committed to student development as well as her whole school leadership of diversity, inclusion and establishing a sense of community.
Sarah is a strong believer in the importance of giving back and is a governor of a London primary school and a professional mentor for aspiring middle leaders.
Sarah values sport and co-curricular activities, and as a keen tennis player was especially proud to watch one of her A-level mathematicians win the US Open in 2021 before going on to achieve an A* grade in mathematics the same year.
Sarah loves exploring and has a particular fondness for hiking in the Welsh countryside where she grew up, an interest that she shares with her husband, Charlie and twin daughters, Emma and Sophie.
