Beyond GCSEs – supporting families with the next step

As students move through Years 10 and 11, questions about sixth form, future study and career pathways naturally begin to come into sharper focus. To help families navigate these important decisions, LPS Clapham recently hosted its Beyond GCSEs coffee morning for Year 10 and 11 parents.

The event welcomed Heidi Armstrong, Head, LPS Mayfair and Sixth, and Nathan Mountford, Head of LPS Sixth, who shared expert insights into the opportunities available beyond GCSEs and the factors families may wish to consider when planning for post-16 education.

Parents heard about a range of pathways, including A Levels, BTECs and other qualifications, while also exploring how subject choices can connect to university aspirations, future careers and individual student strengths and interests.

A particular benefit for LPS Clapham families is the opportunity to access guidance directly from sixth form leaders within the London Park Schools family. By bringing together expertise from across our schools, events such as Beyond GCSEs provide families with valuable insight into the transition to sixth form and help students begin thinking confidently about their next steps.

At LPS Clapham, we believe that successful future planning starts with informed conversations. By introducing these discussions early, students are given the time, support and guidance needed to explore different options, reflect on their ambitions and make decisions that are right for them.

The coffee morning forms part of a wider programme of careers and future pathways support designed to help students understand the opportunities available to them beyond school. Through access to sixth form specialists, university guidance and career-focused experiences, students are encouraged to look ahead with confidence and purpose.

As part of this commitment, families can also benefit from opportunities such as the Dukes Plus University Insights Programme, which connects parents with university admissions experts and representatives from leading institutions, offering valuable advice on applications, decision-making and life beyond school.

Whether students are considering sixth form options, university pathways or future career ambitions, our aim is to ensure that every family feels informed, supported and empowered to make confident decisions about the future.
