Hyde House: Building belonging, leadership and community

A strong sense of belonging can make all the difference to a student’s school experience. At LPS Mayfair, our vertical House System is designed to ensure every student feels part of a supportive community from the moment they join the school.

This term, Hyde House has enjoyed a fantastic start to the year, with students embracing opportunities to build relationships, celebrate achievements and contribute to house life.

One particular highlight was the Hyde House bonding walk, which brought together students from across the year groups. Through our house buddy system, older students have been able to support younger peers as they settle into school life, offering encouragement, guidance and practical advice. These relationships help nurture confidence, create connections across year groups and ensure new students quickly feel at home.

Our house assemblies have also provided opportunities to recognise and celebrate achievement. Congratulations to Year 9 students Jenny and Emma, who currently lead the Hyde House points table with an impressive 22 points each.

At the heart of Hyde House is its motto: “Better than yesterday.” Inspired by the principles of continuous improvement, it encourages students to focus on small, consistent steps forward. Whether in academics, co-curricular activities or personal development, students are reminded that growth comes through effort, resilience and positive habits.

Looking ahead, Hyde House students will take part in the inaugural Great LPS Bake Off, combining friendly competition with fundraising for Mencap. It promises to be another opportunity for students to work together, showcase their talents and strengthen the sense of community that makes house life such an important part of the LPS Mayfair experience.
