GCSE Options

Years 10 and 11 – GCSE

Students study for eight to ten GCSEs, five or six of which are compulsory. Students choose an additional three or four subjects on top of these. Depending on the subject and the student, some subjects may be taken earlier than others.

Compulsory subjects

English Language
English Literature
Maths
A Modern Foreign Language (currently French or Spanish)
Science: Physics, Chemistry and Biology
- All students study all three sciences, but will be entered for either:
  - Triple Award (ie three separate GCSE qualifications in Physics, Chemistry and Biology)
  - Double Award (a combined qualification from papers in all three sciences, resulting in two GCSEs)

Students then choose two or three subjects from the following options

Business Studies
History
Geography
Computer Science
Art, Craft and Design
Drama
Music
Physical Education
Media Studies
Psychology
Further Maths (by invitation)

Additional Subject Choices

Depending on demand and interest, we are always willing to investigate additional subjects and can act as an exam centre for students wishing to take a GCSE in a subject not taught at school (e.g. native language GCSE).
