Students describe LPS Mayfair as feeling like a family. The tight-knit community that LPS Mayfair fosters is thanks to our award-winning pastoral care, which is the golden thread running through everything we do. At LPS every student is known, and every voice is heard. Key to our family feeling is the vertical tutoring and house system.
Vertical tutoring sees students’ form classes made from students across years 7-11 and a dedicated form tutor. Blending ages in this way enables students to feel greater belonging and connection at school, as well as developing more resilient peer relationships, reducing social silos and year group pressures. Vertical tutoring also allows offers greater continuity of care as tutors work with students for multiple years.
Each form belongs to a House, named after one of our local parks; Green Park, Hyde Park, and St James’s Park. Through the house system students engage in a robust pastoral curriculum, as well as enjoy healthy competition and build camaraderie across a weekly and termly merit competition and inter-house matches, challenges and competitions throughout the year. Sixth formers are part of the House system and take a leadership role, joining in weekly and leading assemblies as well as helping to organise whole school events, offering the benefits of mentoring and leadership across the student body.
A dedicated pastoral lead has overarching responsibility for the students within each House, providing a holistic approach to pastoral care. They oversee students’ wellbeing, monitor academic progress, maintain safeguarding oversight, and promote active participation in the co-curricular programme, ensuring that each student is known, supported, and challenged to thrive both in and beyond the classroom.
All students have access to the on-site counsellor who helps students with specific concerns, as well as equipping students with essential life skills they need to thrive.
