On Thursday 3rd July, in glorious sunshine, LPSC students made their way to Spencer Sports Ground for an immensely entertaining day of summer sports.
In the build up to the day there had been lots of debate about which of the houses would be victorious – would it be Brunel, Dove, Wilberforce or Hill? Anticipation levels were high and there was a buzzing atmosphere in morning break as pupils fuelled up and talked team tactics in preparation for their events.
The bus pulled up and it was straight into the action as students started competing on the track and in the field. On the track the action was a brilliant to watch, with a number of very close races. Students competed in the 400m, 200m, 100m, an obstacle course relay and the 4 x 100m relay. Special mentions go to Fillipa, Astrid, Leila for showing great team spirit and filling in for their missing teammates when needed. Luc, Peter, Sam, Roman & Reggie all showed great pace and energy in their events. The year 9 boys and our year 7/8 girls were absolutely superb, putting on a number entertaining races with very close finishes.
In the field, all students competed in the rounders ball throw, standing long jump & ‘cricket wicket challenge’. Students were very conscious that every point counted and it was great to see them cheering on their teammates and push each other to try and gain as many points as possible!
At the halfway stage the points were incredibly even between the houses, there was a belief that Brunel or Dove were way ahead after their excellent performance on the track, but with the individual points scored in the field, this was not the case. With the relays and tug of war events to come, it was all to play (or race) for!
The obstacle course relay and 4x100m relays were absolutely action packed and just fantastic fun to watch. The sports day atmosphere reached fever pitch, as pupils, staff and parents all cheered everybody on across the events, in what was a memorable part of sports day 2025. The race results were generally varied and nobody could tell who was in the lead.
It is tradition that sports days often finish with the tug of war, which is always a highlight of the day… and this year’s finale did not disappoint! The year 7/8 and year 9/10 tug of war competitions were both extremely close, with the positioning varied, meaning the points gained between the houses were quite even…
As pupils gathered to find out the final sports day results you could cut the tension in the air a knife! Nobody knew who had won. There were some who felt it must be Dove House due to their performance in the track races. There were some who thought Hill House had been consistently close in every single event and therefore would have scored the most points. However, some felt House Wilberforce had been scoring well in the individual field events …Nobody could be sure.
The total scores were all in it couldn’t be closer… just 1 point separated first and second, but in the LPSC 2025 sports day the results were as follows:
1st – WILBERFORCE HOUSE
2nd – DOVE HOUSE
3rd – BRUNEL HOUSE
4th – HILL HOUSE
WILBERFORCE HOUSE RAISE THE SPORTS DAY CUP!!!!!
It truly was a thoroughly enjoyable sports day for LPSC. All our students put on a brilliant a show and there was a great atmosphere generated by staff and parents in what was a memorable day for everybody involved. Thank you to the whole LPSC community!
