On 11th June we were honoured to welcome esteemed clinical psychologist and author Dr Tara Porter, who joined Dr Adrian Rainbow and members of our parent community for a deeply resonant conversation on parenting in today’s complex world.
Titled “The Power of Being a ‘Good Enough’ Parent”, the session offered a refreshing and compassionate perspective on a topic that weighs heavily on many parents. In an age dominated by social media, ever-shifting expectations, and the pressure to “get everything right,” Dr Porter provided a welcome antidote to perfectionism. Drawing on decades of clinical experience and evidence-based research, she reassured parents that striving to be “perfect” isn’t only unrealistic, it’s unnecessary.
Instead, Dr Porter championed the concept of being a “good enough” parent, a term rooted in psychological theory that emphasises the importance of being present, attuned, and responsive, rather than flawless. She explained how children don’t need perfection to thrive—they need stability, warmth, boundaries, and a parent who is willing to learn and grow alongside them. This approach fosters resilience, emotional regulation, and a secure sense of self in children—qualities that far outweigh the illusion of a perfect upbringing.
The session was both enlightening and affirming. It gave parents permission to let go of the guilt, comparison, and anxiety that so often accompany modern parenting, replacing it with a sense of grounded confidence. Parents left the conversation feeling not only more informed, but genuinely supported by the shared wisdom and authenticity of the discussion.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr Tara Porter for sharing her insights and offering such a compassionate, empowering message. Her words sparked important reflection and reminded us all that being “good enough” is, in fact, more than enough.
