Meet the Head of Music at LPS Mayfair

Life, Passion & Purpose with Our Head of Music

What’s life like at LPS?
I love being Head of Music at LPS Mayfair. There’s a genuine sense of community here and our school is full of warmth, energy and creativity. I feel proud to offer every student the chance to experience music and to share my own passion for it. Watching students develop their ideas through performance and composition is deeply rewarding.

The music department is always buzzing, with incredible support from our team of instrumental teachers. Our students respond with enthusiasm, curiosity and commitment. LPS Mayfair is a place where every student is encouraged to discover what they love, and where staff work together to help bring out the best in each child.

What brought you here?
I was looking for a school where I could make a real difference and share my love for music in a meaningful way. I wanted to lead a department that could grow and evolve, offering a high-quality, forward-thinking music education that reflects today’s music industry.

It was important to me to create a space where students could connect their learning to the music they genuinely enjoy and are passionate about. LPS Mayfair offered that opportunity—a place where innovation, creativity and student voice are valued, and where music thrives as both an art form and a lived experience.

Tell us about your background.
I began writing songs when I was thirteen and haven’t stopped since. I grew up in Rome, Italy, and moved to London on my own to study Songwriting and Music Performance at the University of East London.

Alongside teaching, I produce and release electronic and dance music under the artist name XNewRoman:
Spotify – Artist Page.

I also write for other artists (Listen here) and compose music for TV and film, with placements including BBC One Scotland, Sky TV, Red Bull TV, and the NFL (Playlist).

This creative work continues to inform my teaching and I take great pleasure in bringing real-world musical experience into the classroom.

What does music mean to you?
To quote Marilyn Manson, “Music is the strongest form of magic.” For me, there’s nothing quite like writing a new song and watching it unfold—as if it’s coming from somewhere beyond yourself.

I fell in love with the creative process as a teenager, and that passion has only grown stronger. What brings me the greatest joy now is sharing that magic with others—especially when I see that same spark in students discovering their own musical voices. Music is a source of connection, creativity and wonder, and I feel incredibly lucky to live and work in that space every day.

What’s been the highlight of the past year?
The biggest highlight has been our students’ success in the ISA Music Composition Competition for the second year running. This year, both of our submissions from LPS Mayfair were recognised for their originality and musical merit which is an outstanding achievement!

  • B.S. was awarded First Place in the Solo Instrument Category for a stunning original piano composition: The Lake That FlowsWatch here
  • S.DS. received a Highly Commended award in the Instrument and Voice category for Hardwire, a powerful pop-rock track he wrote, produced and recorded entirely himself, featuring vocals from Year 8 student A.H.: Listen here.

With over 600 schools eligible to submit entries and nearly 2,000 compositions received annually, being recognised two years in a row is a remarkable achievement for both our students and the school. I couldn’t be prouder of their dedication and growth.
