Academic Overview

LPS Sixth is the perfect bridge between school and university, offering more freedom than a school but more structure than most stand-alone sixth form colleges.

Like all schools in the LPS family, we combine outstanding teaching and individual attention to create excellent results. For all students, we want to offer flexibility to make their own choices when it comes to choosing subjects. That way we can help them develop their interests into real passions and to develop a love of learning that will give them vital skills when moving onto university or into a career.

Every subject offers a high level of contact time and small classes with focused individual attention. Students meet regularly with their mentors to discuss progress and we offer regular timetabled sessions that support their learning and help prepare for exams.

Lessons

Lessons in the Sixth Form are a partnership between teacher and student. We work in small groups (minimum is usually c. 3-4 and it’s unusual to have more than 8), and the relationship is more relaxed and informal than in the senior schools. We encourage students to find their passion and to go above and beyond.

Subjects

We offer a wide range but the final options are determined by the choices made by each year’s cohort. We take the time to really understand each student so that we can help guide them to make choices that will not only play to their individual strengths, but which will ensure they are well placed for the right courses for university.

With over 400 potential subject combinations, our London Pathways programme ensures that every student should be able to take a combination of subjects that will help them shine in their chosen area.

Work Experience

Our Year 12s have a week of work experience, tailored to their own interests and future plans. These may include working in the city, medicine, a design company, entertainment agency, estate agency or even a local retailer. The point is to give them a flavour of what work is like and to think about career choices. During their time with us, we also have speakers from various backgrounds to talk about their careers and the paths they took.
